Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon FULL REVIEW (REVISITED) 2021 Summer Bottling

Handcrafted Bourbon Whiskey Custom Bottle Gifts WhiskeyGifter.com

Ever wonder what Buffalo Trace Bourbon tastes like if it ages another 6 years inside the barrel, under strict conditions, solely for the specific flavor profile leading to Stagg Jr.? This is it! My understanding is that Eagle Rare is still a single barrel product, but cannot be labeled as such due to the distillery not flushing lines out at each barrel change. I would love to have an official verification of this from the distillery, but will not hold my breath. As they say... most tales are born of legend and legends are born of some truth.

This review is based on one bottle "neck pour" from a 2021 batch picked up directly at the Buffalo Trace Distillery this summer.

Eagle Rare 10 Yr Bourbon (90 Proof )

Notes: For me, Eagle Rare has always had the best notes, flavor and experience from the initial bottle opening. After a few weeks and months it tends to mellow a little too much and will lose some of the fantastic notes picked up early in the bottle. Regardless, this bourbon is loved and desired by many individuals throughout the world for many good reasons! You can lose track of time and consumption with this bourbon.

Fair Bottle Value: $45 (price paid : $35)

Color: dark honey

Nose: rich leather, oak, caramel, exceptional barrel char, marshmallow, raisin and honey

Palate: oily : vanilla, oak, leather, toffee

Finish: Medium/Long as the oil continues to linger and consistent flavors spill over : vanilla pudding, butterscotch, graham cracker, raisin & ripe plum

Rating: 5/5

Recommend: Yes : I would challenge anyone to find a more consistent 10Yr aged bourbon in the $35-40 price point that has the notes and complexity of Eagle Rare. That said, if it were priced higher than $50 in my area, my rating would go down according to value vs. dollar spent. It has won numerous awards year after year for good reason, however allocation has destroyed many great offerings such as this form many consumers in the U.S. To continue paying double, or triple, the MSRP for a product only means you could have purchased 2-3 other bottles that will likely still please your palate in the same way. It is very difficult to find another 10Yr. bourbon at 90 proof that will give similar notes as this, especially the fruity raisin and vanilla pudding. If you can find it close to MSRP, buy a bottle without fear of regret.  Drinkers who enjoy Buffalo Trace, Stagg Jr., Old Forester 1910, definitely should add this to their collection where price and opportunity exists.
